Elderberry Effective Against Flu

Elderberry contains two compounds that make Elderberry effective against flu viruses. An outbreak of flu at an Israeli kibbutz gave researchers a chance to test a product called Sambucol made from an extract of elderberries. They found that 1 out of 5 of those infected with the flu showed prominent relief of symptoms within 1 day and that 3 out 4 were greatly improved on day 2. After 72 hours, 9 out of 10 reported to be back to normal. In a placebo group, 1 out of 4 were better in 48 hours and it took around 6 days for them get better. Tests have shown that it's most effective if taken at the first signs of infection.

Sambucol is available at most health stores and pharmacies.

If not available, you can make a tea from elderflowers by steeping one tablespoon of elder flowers in one cup of boiling water for 10 - 15 minutes, strain and drink. 3 times a day should do the trick.

Once again, we see the benefits of black elderberry extract as a staple in any natural healing medicine cabinet.

Black Elderberry Extract

Recent studies have shown products made with black elderberry extract have the ability to fight off the flu if taken when sypmtoms first appear. As well as being effective against flu symptoms, studies have shown elderberry to be effective against H1N1, influenza, toothaches, arthirits, HIV and many others. Herbalists have known for many years that elderberry is wonderful for stimulating the immune system and is one of the herbs that has been used to treat coughs, fever, tonsilitis, virus attacks and many other conditions of the body.

Sambucol, a product that has proven itself in clinical studies and has no reported side effects, originated in Israel. Made from the juice of black elderberry (Sambucus nigra), other ingredients include potassium sorbate, glucose syrup (made from corn), citric acid and purified water. We have used it in our home at the first sign of flu symptoms and wholeheartedly attest to it's ability to fight off flu symptoms and speed recovery.
